North Wales Climbing is run by Simon Lake based in the beautiful surroundings of the Snowdonia National Park.
Simon moved to North Wales in 2000 to complete a degree in Marine Zoology at Bangor University. Following that he stayed in the area to train and work as a mountain instructor. Since then Simon has worked for several organisations delivering mountaineering activities to youngsters and adults. More recently he has worked for the National Mountain Centre, Plas Y Brenin delivering a range of courses to adults.
His love for the mountains and his desire to climb them has led Simon to travel to many areas throughout the UK and overseas. He has led youth expeditions to countries such as Borneo, Morocco and Alaska to name a few. As well as personal climbing trips both in summer and winter to places such as Yosemite, Corsica, throughout the Alps and Morocco.
Simon holds the Mountain Instructor Cerificate (MIC) qualifictaion. This is the highest level achievable within the UK and allows him to instruct any mountaineering activities both summer and winter in the UK. This award is not only a measure of technical competence but also of professionalism within mountain instruction and coaching.
All programmes are available by private instruction and are tailor made to your requirements. Whether you have 1 or 5 days available, we can deliver a course that will more than meet your expectations. With this in mind however it is worth noting that the more time you can give to your course, the more of your objectives we can meet. Some courses are also available as Open Courses where you will join a course with other clients on pre-set dates. To maintain quality and maximise opportunities for learning, all courses are kept on low instructor : client ratios. Please see individual course notes to see the maximum ratio we work to for given activities.
North Wales Climbing will supply all technical equipment like ropes, harnesses, helmets etc. If you have your own however you may use them. If you require the use of things like climbing boots, ice axes, crampons etc please let us know when booking and they can be arranged for you at an additional hire cost.
